Books, Videos, and etc.

I have been working on a series of works that have to do with the environment/ and my ideas about everything having a "spirit". Some of the works are large paintings and some are small collages.

NOTE: Some of these have been photographed and loaded to this site.

PAST THEMES:

A persistant theme in my work was in reference to the Legend of King Arthur, the Ladies of the Lake, and the mystical legends of the Celts until 2003. While taking my coursework in art, I was discouraged from pursuing these themes. Below is a short bibliography with some links, if you want to purchase and read them, for yourself.

The Mabinogion

This book is translated from Welsh legends. It has many of the characters from other legends about Arthur. One special note: many names and place-names are in the original Welsh, and may seem hard to read.

For an example: W= "oo"  and LL="th" placing tongue-tip in back of front top teeth.
Despite this, I found the book very interesting and could not put it down.

Arthurian Romances

In English literature classes, this text may be one you would be required to read. It is not a real easy read for the average person. But, for the curious and brave-hearted would give you insight into the mind of the Medieval writer on the subject.

Authors: Steve Blake and Scott Lloyd. These two have caused the whole
concept of where and what the legend of Arthur is all about. Their book
shows the reader that Wales is the true location of the Arthurian legends
and that the legends [as is typical] have been re-located to England, and
why. It is a definate MUST READ! I first got the idea something was not right, when the town of Merlin's birth and other locations of his life, were miles
away from those of King Arthur. It made little sense, until this book by
Blake and Lloyd.

The Materials and Techniques of Medieval Painting

I did several artworks, while in college doing my masters, based on the painting techniques of Medieval artists. Grissaille is one technique, using gradiations from white to black, painted over a rust tone.
